There is currently no centralized system where stakeholders can explore available comprehensive resources in one place in real time. This leads to long wait times for patients in emergency rooms or on in-patient units. Currently hospitals call admitting and referral services at multiple hospitals (Outbound), to find out Bed/resource availability. Admitting and Referral Services staff responds (Inbound) to the various hospitals about their bed availability.

V-PARC resolve issues with both the current outbound and inbound mode of communication by having all such calls directed to V-PARC, which then notifies the caller electronically of an available hospital based on the search. This will speed up the identification of an emergency bed, automate logging of call requests, and eliminate the need to notify other hospitals of bed unavailability.

Our digital therapeutics platform (EM)2 Prepare

We are offering this program to any client seeking improvement who have not sought mental health assistance. Self-assessment and training will be administered through BloominMind’s EMergency EMotional Prepare ((EM)2 Prepare) online program web portal, which can be accessed via computer or mobile devices.

(EM)2 Prepare utilizes standardized validated self-assessments covering depression, anxiety, perceived acute stress, and hazardous substance use. (EM)2 Preparer’s training includes information on the effects of stressful and traumatic experiences on psychological wellbeing, the concept of resilience, cognitive techniques, relaxation, stress management techniques, mindfulness, self-care practices and factors that promote or reduce resilience. This approach to online, self-administered psychological assessment and training has previously been shown acceptable and effective with other populations [1]. Additionally, the user may be referred to licensed mental health clinicians for formal evaluation and treatment, if indicated by severe psychological distress. The program’s recommendations for training/education will be individually tailored to results of the psychological self-assessment. The training goal is to improve client’s ongoing resilience and to encourage open communication about resilience in the workplace.

This approach addresses major barriers to improving resilience, as well as two NIMH identified barriers to reducing mental health consequences of stress among community: 1) improving detection of mental health co-morbidities related to emergency situations and 2) providing expeditious data to predict psychological emergency preparedness to state and federal agencies. The broad reach of easily accessible, confidential self-administered, web-based tools to improve resilience can alleviate racial, economic, and occupational disparities in psychological health, especially during a time of social isolation.

Our Digital Therapeutic platform indents to achieve the following two aims:

Aim 1:

Evaluate the uptake and acceptability of a web-based self-assessment/ resilience training program for community designed to improve their response to stress from COVID-19 exposure. We are planning to integrate existing validated psychological self-assessment and resilience training tools into an online self-assessment and resilience training program. We hypothesize that a majority of community members who become aware of the (EM)2 Prepare program will start it and that a majority of those will complete it. We track program participation based on participants’ use of the secure web portal through which the program is administered.

Aim 2:

Increase understanding of why consumers self-refer to formal mental health care. We predict that our psychological self-assessment/resilience training program will facilitate self-referral to appropriate mental health care among participating FLWs. We will evaluate the association between participant characteristics (sociodemographic, occupational, results of psychological self-assessments) and incidence and timing of self-referral to formal mental health care.

This digital therapeutic platform offers an inexpensive, easily accessible, readily scalable approach to helping at-risk patients in the community identify and improve their resilience in dealing with the psychological hazards of COVID-19 exposure, by utilizing an innovative online, eLearning approach to psychological self-assessment and resilience training.

This digital therapeutic platform uses an integrated suite of online psychological self-assessments and resilience training modules (using interactive videos) as an eLearning program to help communities and patients exposed to the COVID-19 pandemic learn about and improve their resilience to stress. This approach would overcome existing barriers to accessing resilience training, viz., lack of awareness that resilience can be improved [18], reluctance to seek help, often because of stigma [19], and barriers due to social isolation and public health restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brief psychological assessments will improve participants understanding of their psychological state. This self-assessment feature, along with the private nature of online interaction and components of the educational module that address stigma, should enhance the likelihood of participants engaging with and completing resilience training. The ease of using the online portal and the brief, modular, self-paced, structure of the program can easily be scaled up for larger and broader target audiences.
